Title

Real photo postcard of Madison St. Crandon Wis. 3678

Description

Real photo postcard showing Madison Street in Crandon in the 1930s. The bottom of the card reads "Madison St. Crandon Wis. 3678."

The photo was taken from the center of the street, and cars parked at an angle to the sidewalks line both sides of the street. Trees are on the left, and a few brick buildings can be seen further up that side of the street. On the right, business signs in front of the buildings read (from the bottom right to the center back of the photo): "Blatz Old Heidelberg Beer," "EAT," and a vertical sign that says "CRANDON" over a marquis that reads: "FRANK BUCKS FANG & CLAW," a documentary produced in 1935 featuring Frank Buck's skills with capturing animals.

The back of the photo reads in faint penciled handwriting: "August 16--Madison Ave Crandon. Dear Aunt Dora, How are you, been waiting on a letter in a long time's was down to Chicago for a day to Aunt see Mamie VELLA." The card is addressed to Mrs. T. P. Marthan, Sherman, Texas, 101 E Wilson Ave.

The post mark reads: "CRANDON August 15 5PM 1936 WIS." A green, one cent postage stamp is in the upper right corner.
